Santos Saúl Álvarez Barragán, also known as Canelo Álvarez, was born in Guadalajara, Mexico on July 18, 1990. Álvarez is a Mexican professional boxer who is a four-division world champion.

He started boxing at the age of 15 and is also trained by Eddy Reynoso. Álvarez made his professional debut on October 29, 2005, against Abraham Gonzalez. Álvarez got his first win of his career, beating Gonzalez by TKO (Total Knockout) during the fourth round.

He has fought in 56 total fights and holds a career record of 53 wins, 1 loss, and 2 draws (53-1-2); 36 of his wins came by knockouts. He has held the following titles: Unified WBA (Super), WBC (Franchise) Ring magazine, lineal middleweight champion and WBA (Regular) super middleweight champion, WBO and Ring junior middleweight champion, IBF middleweight title, and WBO light heavyweight titleholder.

His last fight was on November 2, 2019, when he defeated light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev for the WBO light heavyweight title.
