What is yoga/meditation and how can it benefit me?
This is a very difficult time for everyone with COVID-19 rapidly spreading. I'm hoping that today I can give you some peace of mind and an activity you can enjoy.
Yoga and meditation are two different things but go hand-in-hand. Yoga is a physical activity that is intended to calm, relax, and promote mindfulness. There are many different poses. For example, you may have heard of "Downward Dog." This is a very well-known yoga pose. You do not have to have a yoga mat or special equipment to meditate/do yoga.
Meditation requires you to sit or lie down in a comfortable position with your eyes closed. It's all about focusing on your breathing. It's about focusing on your every inhalation and exhalation. You do not have to hold your breath or alter it in any way; just breathe naturally and relax.
I recommend searching YouTube if you are interested in trying yoga or including it in your daily routine. There are many free, instructional yoga/meditation classes you can follow and do yourself.
If you are looking for more ways to improve your mental health, I recommend the app "Shine." Shine allows you to check in daily. It starts your day by questioning your gratitude and what you are going to do to feel good today. There is also a "question of the day" that follows the check-in.
Create a healthy daily routine, whether it's exercising, yoga, or meditation. Allow yourself to ease into a new hobby or routine. This is a stressful and trying time for us all.
