Video Slideshow: Upperclassmen attend Annual Job Fair
On Thursday, May 20, upperclassmen of Cairo High were invited to attend the annual Job Fair event presented by the Grady County Chamber of Commerce and the Cairo High School College and Career Academy.
The theme of this year's event was "Let's Get To Work!" and true to word, at least 10 businesses, big and small, participated and were looking for new hires, including Ambassador, Classic Consoles, Flexible Technologies, JTEKT/Koyo Bearings, New Hire Solutions, Nivel Manufacturing, Robert Bearden, Inc., Vector Security, Trulock Chokes, and Woodhaven.
While taking part in the Job Fair, the representatives from Woodhaven Furniture Industries told the Red and Black,
"We're looking for great people who want to build a career ... Every expert was once a beginner. You have to start the journey."
During this event, students were able to visit the different employers' booths to explore some of their choices and get more information on a topic that captivated them.
Following the event, one CHS student shared that "The people at the booths were all very nice and answered all of our questions. They encouraged us to sign up and get involved to get a job."
According to Work-Based Learning Coordinator Mrs. Michelle Ausley, as of today, there will be at least 268 students who will graduate from the Class of 2021, making this a great opportunity for them to extend their options in choosing and creating a career.
The event lasted from 9 a.m.-noon for Cairo High School students, then reopened from 5-7 p.m. for members of the local community seeking career information.
"What a successful morning!" Mrs. Ausley said following the morning session. "Our businesses received many candidates to fill their opening positions. The businesses were very pleased with our students' interest and enthusiasm about hopefully becoming employed right after graduation on May 28th."
