The Scoop: junior Kevin Speed
Meet Kevin Speed, a Junior and quarterback for the Syrupmakers varsity football team.
Kevin, the son of Tangela Anderson and Kevin Speed, Sr., is 16 years old and resides in Cairo.
When asked what his favorite part of being quarterback is, Kevin, the 11th-grader replies it is because he gets to “lead the team.” In ninth-grade, he played cornerback for Cairo’s Junior Varsity (JV) football team, before being promoted to safety on the varsity team his Sophomore year. Kevin says the transition to quarterback was rather “hard,“ but with time, he got the hang of things.
Kevin is also a member of the Syrupmakers basketball team during the winter, and, position-wise, he says he plays “anything.”
Kevin says his favorite subject is math, “because it is easy.” His favorite educator is Mrs. Lara Starr, a CHS science teacher, because she isn’t as “strict“ as his other teachers and because she is funny, according to Kevin.
In his spare time, Kevin enjoys connecting with friends on and off of Snapchat. When Kevin graduates high school, he plans to attend a four-year college or university and then play in the National Football League (NFL).
