Mr. Skeen is a US History teacher and he is also the Head Tennis Coach. He said loves it, because history is a story, it can be told or showed in many different ways.
Mr. Skeen grew up in the outskirts of Thomasville, GA., and is the son of John and Angela Skeen. He has 2 dachshunds which he calls his "boys" named Hunts and Heinz like the ketchup brands. Mr. Skeen is married to Shanna Derby-Skeen.
Outside of school, he likes to participate in Ultimate Frisbee, walking his boys around Cherokee Lake in Thomasville, preaching and lead singing at his church, going to music concerts, and being around any type of water.
Mr. Skeen graduated from Thomasville County Central High School in 2005. During his high school years, he was the Region Champion in Swimming, Captain of the Tennis Team, he was National Honor Society member, and a member of the Spirit Squad.
He graduated from Valdosta State University in 2009. He graduated with a History degree, and he is currently working on his Masters from Georgia Southern in Technology.
Before working at Cairo High, he taught at Thomas County Central High School for 2 years and then he proceeded to teach at Brookwood School in Thomasville, GA.
Mr. Skeen told the Red and Black that teaching at CHS taught him that being here has an every sense of family.
A fun fact about Mr. Skeen is he played basketball with actor Woody Harrelson and he was also in the movie Zombie Land in college that was filmed in Valdosta.
