The Scoop: Camille Strickland, Voices student director

Voices Student Director, senior Camille Strickland

Auditions for the 2020-2021 Voices of Cairo Show Choir will be held on Thursday, January 14, at 2:30 p.m. in the CHS Dance Studio (Mrs. Hannah Russell's room on the 5th wing).

According to Voices Director Mr. Joshua Moore, students who audition "will have the amazing opportunity to be a part of something relatively new and exciting at Cairo High School."

Camille, daughter of Mrs. Angie and Mr. Kevin Strickland, lives in North Grady County. The 17-year-old says of being Student Director,

“As student director I help our director with various things like auditions, choosing music, planning for our future show, and helping other students in the group.”

The senior has been a member of Voices for two years, or since it was first started at Cairo High in 2019. Her favorite parts of being student director are the relationships she makes with everyone in the group and that it is always looking for new members.

Camille shared that her favorite subject is English and that she takes Dual Enrollment classes through Southern Regional.

Her favorite instructor at CHS is math teacher Mrs. Sarah Slanker, who told the Red & Black that Camille's personality made teaching her class more "fun and enjoyable."

As for clubs and extracurricular activities, during her time at CHS, Camille has also been a member of Key Club, Cairo Youth Council. Outside of school, Camille is also an active member of the choir and praise team at Family Worship Center. Her favorite hobby is hanging out with her friends.

After graduating from high school, Camille plans to attend Valdosta State University to earn a bachelor's degree in political science.
