Syrupmakers shine in One-Act Competition, begin preparations for Spring Musical

Recently, on Oct. 25, 2019, the Cairo High School Drama Department performed in this year's one-act play competition. This year's performance was "It's a Wonderful Life: A Life Radio Play." Ms. Landrie Bock, director of the play, originally held auditions for the play on August 28 of this year.

Several Syrupmakers took home awards for their performances, according to Ms. Bock, Drama teacher at Cairo High School: "We took home Best Supporting Actor – Eddie Connell; All-Star Cast – Mason Best, Corrine Carrillo; Mary Harrison; James Rodden."

The next upcoming performance for our Drama Department will be this year's spring musical, and this year our students will be performing "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown." Auditions will be held on January 9 at 4:00 p.m.

According to Ms. Bock, "Auditions consist of a prepared monologue, 16-bars of a song from a show, and a dance call." She also says, "Although there are only six characters, I am adding an ensemble of other Peanuts characters."

The performance will take place on Friday and Saturday, May 1 - 2 at 7 p.m., as well as Sunday, May 3 at 2:30 p.m.

The musical "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" is a fresh approach to the film, which made its debut in 1967, and is also based on the famous comic strip made by Charles Schulz.
