The Syrupmaker Wrestling team is ready to begin the 2021-2022 season with the Blue Devil Tournament at Tift County High School on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, at 8 a.m.

Last year, the Syrupmakers had another great season, with returning senior wrestler Antroveno Hadley finishing as region champ and fourth in the state for his weight class, and the team as a whole placing second at regions.

Led once again by Coaches Kevin Elliott and Scott Marshall, this year's players will compete against each other in weekly "wrestle-offs" based on their weight classes to determine placement on the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. With only 14 spots available on the Varsity squad, official rosters will change weekly up until the team competes at regions.

Coach Scott Marshall

The Red & Black spoke to Coach Marshall to get his thoughts on the new season and wrestlers.

"I am looking for a full season and am ready to go out with a young, fresh team," he said.

Coach Marshall described his team as "young and talented," and named Antroveno, as well as junior Tanner Ramm, as his team's biggest leaders.

He also named Terrance Peoples, Blake Hall, and Jimmy Jiminez as team leaders, telling the Red & Black that Jimmy, in particular, "has made a lot of improvement and is having success."
