Stage Makers holding auditions for spring musical

The CHS Stage Makers will present the musical "Into the Woods" next spring.

Auditions for students to participate in the Stage Makers' spring musical, "Into the Woods," are stated for Friday, December 17 from noon-2 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium. Around the school are QR codes for students to scan and join a Google Classroom that has the documents for auditions and playlists of the musical.

Theatre Director Mrs. Austin Harrell told the Red & Black that the CHS theatre program is a family environment and an excellent place to make new friends. There's no experience in theatre required to become a part of the Stage Makers; instead, they are looking for anyone who enjoys "singing, dancing, making new friends, trying new things, and most of all, having fun!"

"We have so many talented students, and I would love to see that talent on stage," she said.

Since theatre is an after-school-only class this year, rehearsals will be scheduled around students' extra-curriculars and jobs. The plan is to rehearse at least twice a week from January-April, and then have a full "tech week" during the week leading up to the show, which is currently scheduled for April 22-24, 2022.

Anyone who would like to audition is also encouraged to attend an "Audition Prep Day" on December 16 from 2:45-4:30 in the dance classroom on the fifth wing. This is the day before auditions and can help prepare students who plan to audition for the show.

When asked what inspired her choice of "Into the Woods" for this spring, Ms. Harrell told the Red & Black that she has always loved its music and script; she also felt that its ensemble cast would allow many student actors to shine.

"When I was looking at the group I currently have," she said, "I could not pick one 'star,' as they are all wonderfully talented and mesh so well together."

"Into The Woods" is an adventure musical that incorporates plots and characters of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Lapine. Click here to find out more about the musical, itself.
