Soccer All-Star Team announced
The Thomasville Area Soccer Association, also known as TASA, recently announced its first annual Boys' and Girls' High School All-Star Teams. The organization selected the players from the region who stood out during their 2022 soccer season. The athletes selected will participate in an All-star Match on Thursday, May 12 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Thomasville.
Representing Cairo High on the boys' team will be seniors Ethan Daughtry, Thomas Herrera, and Santiago Lopez; and juniors Jeison Diaz, Greyson Blair, and Ismael Ponce. Representing CHS on the girls' team will be senior Macy Ellis, junior Lauren Jones, and freshmen Josie Noriega and Keila Barrios.
According to TASA's website, "The club is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1983 in Thomasville, Georgia on the principles of developing players, coaches, and referees. TASA currently serves the cities of Cairo, Moultrie, Bainbridge, and Thomasville."
TASA Board Member Mr. Bobby Rodriguez told the Red & Black that he got the idea to create the team from his friends at the Tallahassee Soccer Club, which has its own All-Star teams.
Players were selected by a coaches committee, which met and discussed each nominated player's strengths before making the final selections. The committee decided not to limit the team to seniors but instead to select the most deserving players overall. Next year, the committee plans to expand the team to include players from Valdosta and Moultrie.
Mr. Rodriquez has college recruits coming out and taking a look at the players for recruitment. All profits made from the game will be distributed equally amongst the seven soccer programs that are participating in the All-Star game.
