Series Preview: 'Stranger Things 4'
Finally, after months and months of suspenseful waiting, season four of the science fiction television series "Stranger Things" is almost here. Season four will be split into two volumes. Volume one is scheduled to be released on May 27, 2022, with the second volume's release being scheduled for five weeks later on July 1, 2022. Produced by the Duffer Brothers, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Iain Paterson, season four will have a total of nine episodes.
Netflix released an official plot description for "Stranger Things 4" on February 17, 2022:
"It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down."
The Duffer Brothers and Netflix announced that production for season four had begun in February of 2020 in Vilnius, Lithuania, at the decommissioned Lukiškės Prison. After wrapping up production in Lithuania, they resumed filming in the United States around the Atlanta metro area, which was the primary location for the production of previous seasons. On March 16, 2020, after just two weeks of filming, all Netflix productions were delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. A lot of season four was filmed at Albuquerque Studios in New Mexico. After several more filming delays, it finally resumed on September 28, 2020, in Georgia. Noah Schnapp, the actor of Will Byers in the series, stated that filming had finally wrapped up in September of 2022.
The cast of "Stranger Things 4" has many actors reprising their roles, including Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven / Jane Hopper, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair, Cara Buono as Karen Wheeler, and Brett Gelman as Murray Bauman. Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco, and Joseph Quinn will also be joining the main cast as Peter Ballard, Argyle, and Eddie Munson, respectively. The cast members for recurring characters include Joe Chrest as Ted Wheeler, Matthew Modine as Martin Brenner, Paul Reiser as Sam Owens, Matty Cardarople as Keith, Tom Wlaschiha as Dmitri, Nikola Đuričko as Yuri, Robert Englund as Victor Creel with Kevin L. Johnson playing Young Victor Creel, Sherman Augustus as Lt. Colonel Sullivan, Mason Dye as Jason Carver, Amybeth McNulty as Vickie, Myles Truitt as Patrick, Regina Ting Chen as Ms. Kelly, Grace Van Dien as Chrissy, Tyner Rushing as Virginia Creel, Livi Burch as Alice Creel, and Logan Riley Bruner as Fred Benson.
"Stranger Things 4" will be available to stream on Netflix on May 27, 2022.
