Recap: CHS holds Open House for 2019-2020 school year
On August 27, 2019, Cairo High School held its Open House for the 2019-2020 school year. The original event was to be held on the front lawn of the school from 6 - 8 p.m. With time approaching and the possibility of rain, the location for the Open House was changed to inside the gym; however the time and date remained unchanged.
The Open House had clubs for the students to learn more about, such as FCA, FFA, and Art Club. There were also representatives from Southern Regional Technical College there, who gave information to students interested in Dual Enrollment.
There was a raffle for all attendees, with prizes being drawn every 15 minutes. These prizes ranged from t-shirts to tablets; awarded to anyone who completed the scavenger hunt was eligible for the drawing for the grand prize.
A painted rock was planned to be placed somewhere on the front campus, with a special prize to be given to the lucky person who found it. This was later canceled due to the possibility of rain. The rock still served a special purpose: the rock was given away as the grand prize in the raffle. The lucky winner will be able to exchange it for a certificate for a free copy of this year's Raconteur in the spring.
Also, there were hot dogs, chips, and drinks in the front area of the gym. They were free for everyone who attended the event. Also, most booths had candy, and the culinary arts class even had ice cream for attendees.
Overall, the event seemed like a nice introduction to activities for new students of Cairo High School, and it seemed like a refresher for returning students. Although the rain caused a location change, the spirit and purpose of the Open House didn't change.
