Huge ICE raids conducted in Mississippi

On Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019, immigration officials raided numerous Mississippi food processing plants, targeting workplaces across six different cities in southern Mississippi. Immigration and Customs and Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested up to 680 undocumented immigrants.

That afternoon, the U.S Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi Mike Hurst said this was “the largest single state immigration enforcement operation in our nation's history."

CNN reported that “271 migrants were released from the processing center and transported back to their individual arrest locations and 32 individuals were released from the worksite location without being transported from processing center”

11- year old Magdalena Gomez Gregorio, with tears in her eyes pleading for the return of her father, said, "My dad didn't do anything. He's not a criminal." Gregorio and other children of those who were arrested stayed in a community center gymnasium overnight.
