Student Council announces Homecoming 2020 theme
Homecoming Week will be November 9-13, the Cairo High School Student Council has announced. This year’s theme is Homecoming 2020: A Touch of Class. Voting for Homecoming Court representatives is happening tomorrow and Friday.
Vice-principal Mrs. Tammy Donalson says, “The kids are excited about it. It was their theme.”
Students and teachers are encouraged to dress up throughout Homecoming Week:
Monday will be "Dress for Success" - dress in your best attire
Tuesday will be "TV Tuesday" - dress up as your favorite TV show or movie character
Wednesday will be "Wacky Wednesday"- dress up in mix-matched socks and your tackiest outfit
Thursday will be "Through the Decades Thursday" - dress up in your favorite outfit from your favorite decade
Friday will be "School Spirit Day" - wear red and black to cheer on the Syrupmakers.
The first round of voting for Homecoming Court representatives will be on Wednesday, October 28, the same day students elect Student Council officers and class officers. The runoff for Homecoming Court representatives will occur this Friday, October 30.
The top 15 to 20 girls on the first ballot will be narrowed down to nine Court representatives by the final round of voting, and one of them will be crowned Homecoming Queen during the half-time at the Homecoming football game.
The Homecoming Dance is cancelled, but we will still have a assembly announcing the Homecoming Court and king nominees earlier in the week.
According to Student Body President Kaityln Donalson, Student Council is planning to hold the assembly in the New Gym and, "those that aren’t Seniors or on the final ballot [for Homecoming Court] will watch [a] live stream in their classes."
Mrs. Donalson told the Red & Black that she wants to hold a pep rally on the Friday of Homecoming Week to announce the Homecoming King, but if that is not possible, they will wait to crown him until a time yet to be determined.
On Friday, November 13, the Syrupmakers will face off against the Doughtery High School Trojans for the annual Homecoming football game.
