The Cross Country Booster Club is sponsoring a raffle for a $50 Visa gift card. Tickets are available to all students and school personnel for $2 apiece, or $5 for 3 tickets. According to coach of the girls cross country team, Coach McClendon, the deadline to buy a ticket is this Friday, October 2. The drawing will be held on Monday, October 5.

Anyone interested in buying a ticket is asked to see Coach McClendon in the New Gym, Coach Papanicolopolous (Coach “P”) on 4th wing, or any cross country runner.

According to boys team coach, Coach P, the money raised by the raffle will mainly be used by cross country teams for meet costs and transportations fees. Any money left over will purchase new uniforms, as they anticipate adding team members next year.

Due the pandemic’s impact on CHS athletic department funds, many sports teams have had to raise more money than usual this year. “We have completely funded ourselves this year,” he shared.

The CHS cross country teams have had to pay anywhere from $60-$100 a meet to participate in invitationals this year, says Coach P, not counting transportation costs. However, as in previous years, cross country team members have not had to pay dues. Mr. P attributes this to community support, citing a team fundraiser earlier this year which raised just over $500 through a GoFundMe account.

“That’s huge… that helped cover one of our meets, transportation. We were able to buy some uniforms with that as well,” he said.

“People have been very supportive, and I’m very grateful for that.”

Cross country runners will next represent the ‘Makers and ‘Maids at the Bearcat Invitational in Bainbridge on Saturday, October 10. To read more about the boys Cross Country team and their achievements this fall, click here.
