Everything we know about 'The Batman' so far
One of the newest movies filming in the DC cinematic universe, "The Batman" is a gritty movie with DC producers wanting a darker aesthetic for their superheroes, rather than the happier and lighter themes that are in Marvel movies. Not much is known about the plot of the movie, but DC director Matt Reeves said to The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted a more detective-like Batman rather than the vengeance-driven Batman we have seen in past DC movies.
"The Batman" comes out in American theaters on June 25, 2021. Filming for the movie only recently started, which means "The Batman" is ahead of schedule. With the movie only being filmed for about the past two weeks, any teasers or leaked information is not out yet, nor will it be for a while. Director Matt Reeves chose Glasglow, Scotland to serve as Gotham for the movie.
Most of the cast has been confirmed; however, there are some additional actors rumored to play certain roles. We wont know for sure until more information comes out.
The confirmed cast as of right now is the following: Robert Pattinson ("Twilight," "Tenet," "The King") will be playing a younger Bruce Wayne / Batman; Zoe Kravitz ("X-Men First Class," "Divergent") will be playing Selina Kyle / Catwoman. Kravitz also voiced the feline fatale in "The Lego Batman Movie"; Paul Dano ("Where The Wild Things Are," "12 Years a Slave") will be playing Edward Nashton / The Riddler; Colin Farrell ("In Bruges," "Dumbo") will play Oswald Cbblepot / Penguin; Jeffrey Wright ("Casino Royale," "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete") will play Commissioner Gordon; Andy Serkis ("Black Panther," "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes") will be playing Alfred Pennyworth; and John Turtorro ("Transformers," "O Brother, Where Art Thou?") will be playing Carmine Falcon.
New actress Jayme Lawson will be playing a character named Bella, a "grassroots political candidate running for office in Gotham." Many fans speculate that Bella is actually Barbara Gordan, Comissioner Gordans daughter; this would be similar to how Sony changed Mary Jane to Michelle Jones in the newest "Spider-Man" movies. Actors Peter Sarsgaards and Matthew McConaughey both were rumored to play the villain Two-Face, but nothing has been confirmed yet on who would take the role.
