CHS culinary program brings back 'Takeout Tuesdays' for fall 2019
"Takeout Tuesday," presented by Mrs. Whitney Brown and her culinary arts students, returned to Cairo High School on Tuesday Aug. 20, 2019. The first "TOT" meal included lasagna, two sides, a desert, and a gallon of tea or lemonade. The price of the takeout meals is $40, although you can also get a "half" order for $30.
If you're interested in purchasing a Takeout Tuesday meal, visit the Cairo High School Culinary Arts Facebook page for updates. You can also find the order form there.
According to Mrs. Brown, this meal will feed four to six adults and will be hot and ready for pickup on Tuesday afternoon from 3:30-6:00 p.m. right after school from the CHS Vocational Center. For teachers at CHS, the meal can even be delivered to your room.
The next TOT on September 3 will be a "breakfast feast" including breakfast casserole, cheese grits, fruit salad and coffee cake.
Make sure you place your order by the previous Sunday at 11:59 p.m. so that the culinary students can be sure to have it prepared in time on the following Tuesday.
Checks may be made out to CHS Culinary Arts. Payments must be made before or at the time of pickup.
According to Mrs. Brown, the culinary program is currently in the works of planning a "Culinary Tour of Georgia," a week-long tour of culinary schools/colleges and local restaurants around the state. This event will take place in the Spring of 2020 and "will likely be pretty costly," she said.
TOT will help "cut costs of our trip and other program expenses," and also give younger "Intro" students who have never worked in food service a chance to "shine in the community ... increas[ing] their confidence and pride in their work and giv[ing] them the liberty they need to become strong, creative culinary students who eventually will provide excellent hospitality and service to others."
