CHS holds door decoration contest as finale of College and Career Week 2019
As the 2019 College and Career Week at CHS came to an end, teachers were invited to participate in a door decorating competition based on their alma mater or college of choice. After being delayed one day to allow all teachers to finish with preparations, the judges made their selection on Friday, March 22, 2019.
The participants in this year's contest included English teachers Ms. Clatto, Ms. Virgil, and Mr. Layton Smith; science teacher Ms. Armstrong; social studies teacher Coach Boyce; and special education teachers Mr. Lorenza Smith and Ms. Dawson.
Mr. Layton Smith's door was selected as the winner of the contest. CHS journalism students/Red and Black staff members Hannah Jo Gibson and Morgan Sellars helped decorate Mr. Smith's door and will share the $30 Walmart gift card which was the prize for winning the contest. On the door was information about the University of Georgia and Piedmont College, from which Mr. Smith received his undergraduate and graduate degrees.
According to a flier handed out to the teachers at CHS, all door displays had to include the following: name of college/university, location, website address, year the college was founded, school mascot and colors, undergraduate enrollment, percentage of students enrolled by race/ethnicity, estimated travel time from CHS, annual tuition and fees, percent of students recieving financial aid, percent of students that reside on campus, SAT/ACT mddle 50% range scores, majors and sports teams offered, extracurricular activities offered, and creativity.
