Updates: 2019 College and Career Week at CHS
The 2019 College and Career Week at CHS will last from Monday, March 18 to Thursday, March 21, 2019.
The week started off with teachers decorating their classroom doors in a contest that will be judged later in the week.
Also, on Monday, students attended an assembly which began at 10:00 a.m. in the CHS gymnasium for grades 11 and 12 only. The speaker of the assembly was Demetrius Smith of Kollaborative Kreations, Inc. Smith originally planned to deliver a speech entitled "My Current Situation is NOT my Conclusion: Living Through the Challenges of Life," but instead delivered a speech to students on leadership. For more information on Smith, read the Red and Black's preview from last week.
On Tuesday, CHS will have "Dress for Success" day or "Dress Like Your Career Choice" in order for students to show off what they want to be in the future. Break Out sessions with Demetrius Smith will also be held on Tuesday. See the link above for more info on those sessions.
On Wednesday, students are encouraged to wear their favorite college or university colors and gear. College application and FAFSA assistance for seniors will also be going on for students that day as well.
On Thursday, the school will have a College & Career Fair in the CHS gym. Representatives from local businesses, colleges, and branches of the military will be there to provide information or answer questions about their programs for students. Students will also be able to learn about different careers and what it will take for them to make it there. Also, the date for the 9th grade assembly, "Becoming a Successful Student Panel Discussion" has been changed to Thursday, March 21, 2019 in the auditorium at 2:00 p.m.
Finally, the teacher door decorating event will also be judged at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The winning teacher will receive a Walmart gift card to spend any way he or she wants.
