FSU Medical Response Unit holds 5k Fundraiser

On Sunday, March 10, 2019, Florida State University held a 5k fundraiser to help fund the Medical Response Unit.

The description on the race's website invited participants to "Come to the only race on campus where you don't have to be the fastest to win!"

"The FSU Medical Response Unit (MRU) is a basic life support / quick response unit that responds to all 911 medical calls on the main FSU campus during MRU hours of operation. The Unit is comprised of student volunteers and offers medical care (in conjunction with local EMS and other Public Service agencies) at the First Responder level free of charge to students, faculty, staff, & patrons of Florida State University," according to the race's website.

"All proceeds of the race go toward maintaining the high standard of care the Medical Response Unit extends to the FSU community."

The race's website also states that all participants in the race would receive raffle tickets which give the holders a chance to win a pair of "LULULEMON LEGGINGS/PANTS (winner's preference) courtesy of Lululemon Tallahassee."

Special event supervisor, Tien Cao, told WTXL Tallahassee "The supplies for medical supplies are so expensive and we provide free care to the students on campus. Our motto is students serving students, so in order to have all those supplies, that money we can provide care for events such as other 5k that student organizations put on."

Runners "were able to view and learn about law enforcement and medical agencies such as the Leon county bomb squad and FSU sports medicine," according to WTXL Tallahassee.

"Prizes have been donated from our awesome sponsors in-kind listed as follows: Vale Food Company, Loli and the Bean, Centrale, Township, Tin Lizzy's, Madison Social, The Edison, Fleet Feet, Yogurt Mountain, Barefoot Campus Outfitters, Death Wish Coffee Co., Doggie Dayz Daycare, Medic Nerd, Alumni Hall Stores, & Bagel Bagel."
