2019 NFC Championship Game preview
The NFC Championship game is set for Sunday, Jan. 20, 2018. The New Orleans Saints and LA Rams will face off in a rematch from their Week 9 thriller which New Orleans won 45-35.
The Rams are coming to New Orleans with different things in mind this time around. To win their first playoff game in 14 years, the Rams beat the Dallas Cowboys 30-22 in arguably the teams best rushing performance all year.
In that game, running Backs Todd Gurley and CJ Anderson combined for 238 yards and three touchdowns. If they can bring this rushing attack to New Orleans, expect a much more exciting game.
On defense, the Rams should change plenty things. During the first meeting, Los Angeles failed to record a sack on Drew Brees. They should apply pressure early. This time around, Marcus Peters won’t be one-on-one against Michael Thomas. In the teams' last meeting, Thomas racked up 12 catches for 211 yards. Former Pro Bowler Aqib Talib is also back from injury and will matchup with Michael Thomas.
New Orleans should look to keep the game balanced on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Saints should keep the ball rolling with Michael Thomas. He is coming off a game against the Eagles in which he caught 12 receptions for 171 yards and a touchdown. This performance was the best receiving performance in Saints playoff history. Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara will be another offensive force with their rushing attack.
January 20 should be the best game of the playoffs as the road to the Super Bowl continues.
