Whigham holds 59th annual Rattlesnake Roundup
The Whigham Community Club is hosting its 59th annual Rattlesnake Roundup. The event will be taking place on Saturday, Jan 26, 2019, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Roundup Grounds, located on US 84, just east of downtown Whigham, Ga.
The Roundup has delighted both young and old for nearly 60 years now. What started as a small club project in 1960 has become an annual feature of the Whigham Community Club and even attracts national attention. The event features over 100 vendors, selling everything from arts and crafts (such as belts, handbags, jewelry, clothing, and knives) to various oddities. Animal rides, rock climbing, zip lining, and other fun attractions for children are also available.
In addition, the Johnny Marshall Jazz Band will perform, and expert snake handlers will demonstrate how snake venom is extracted, as well as deliver an educational snake program. The program will highlight various topics, such as how to identify venomous and non-venomous reptiles of your area and how to be safe when encountering reptiles in the wild. There will also be discussions about common myths and misconceptions regarding snakes and other reptiles, as well as instructions on correct first aid treatment for a snake bite.. There will also be an animal showing.
Parking is free and admission is $5 for all (infants and those in wheelchairs are allowed in for free). For any large family, the cost is capped at $20 per group.
