Pena selected CHS PBIS Student of the Week for November 26-30

This week’s PBIS Student of the Week is freshman Armando Pena.

Pena, 16, was nominated by Ms. Katherine Foote, who teaches his American Government class. According to Ms. Foote, Pena has done an outstanding job of adjusting to a new school and making academic improvement, focusing on his grades and “with pride [giving his] best.”

“He deserves many more MAKERbucks for the improvements he has made; you can’t overdo it,” Ms. Foote lauded.

Every Friday during the school year, Cairo High School Principal Chris Lokey and Assistant Principal Chief Andrew Jones name a “Positive Behavior Intervention Support [PBIS] Student of the Week,” a CHS student recognized by faculty or administration for modeling positive behaviors to fellow students.

Each week's winner is chosen randomly from Mr. Lokey's “golden drum” containing “MAKERbucks,” rewards given to students who exemplify parts of the “MAKER Matrix”: M – Model student, A – Attendance, K – Knowledgeable, E – Exhibit Excellence, R – Respectful and Responsible.

PBIS Students of the Week are recognized during the school's morning announcements and given a certificate of acknowledgment and gift certificate to Mr. Chick.
