Man in India has huge tumor removed from his jaw

A father of four from India, Majeed N, recently had a twelve-pound tumor removed from his jaw. Majeed went under a painful facelift surgery that took twelve hours at Amrita Hospital in Kochi, India. The surgery was carried out by twelve surgeons.

According to the Daily Mail, the tumor was called chondroblastic osteosarcoma and measured to be eight inches by six inches. The tumor made it painful for Majeed to chew, swallow, and speak.

Majeed hid from the world for ten years in his hometown, Palakkad, due to his tumor. People made fun of him for this tumor, and he now feels like he's "embarked a new life" after getting it removed.

"It is a huge relief to get the tumor off my face - it is almost like a second birth," says Majeed.

According to Fox News, his whole jaw was reconstructed using a bone from his leg, completely changing his appearance. Prior to the surgery, Majeed did years of chemotherapy, but the tumor kept growing.

According to Dr. Subramania Iyer who performed the surgery, “The huge mass was leading to grave complications. If the condition had persisted, Majeed would have found it impossible to use his mouth." Lyer said it was a great challenge, but the surgery was succesful.

Majeed is recovering well.
