Three foods that give you iron


Iron is a mineral you need survive. According to www.webmd.com, "Iron is an important component of hemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to transport it throughout your body." Three foods that give you iron are spinach, legumes, and tofu.

Spinach is high in iron. According to healthline, "spinach provides 20% of the RDL for iron per serving, along with several vitamins and minerals. It also contains important antioxidants." This shows spinach gives you lots of iron.

Another food containing iron is legumes. According to everydayhealth.com, black beans contain 4 mg of iron per cup. Lentils contain 6 mg per cup and also "loaded with fiber that fills you up, may help lower cholesterol, and may help stabilize your blood sugar."

Tofu can also give you iron. According to www.eatright.org, "although you absorb less of the iron in plants, every bite counts, and adding a source of vitamin C to vegetarian sources of iron will enhance absorption."
