'Survival' novel turned into new film

Alexandra Oliva, who was born and raised in Upstate New York, has written her first novel called, “The Last One.” The book, which is most likely intended for a young adult/teen audience, has 304 pages and was published July 12, 2016, by Ballantine Books. The book might also be based on a movie which will be released this year.

There have been debates on whether the movie is based on the book. Both the movie and the book are based on survival and limits that are forced and crossed.

According to GoodReads.com, “Survival” is the name of the game, as the line blurs between reality TV and reality itself and how one woman’s mind and body are pushed to the limit. The main character of the book wishes for adventure, but she never imagined it would go too far.

The book begins with a reality TV show. Twelve contestants are sent into the woods to face challenges that will test the limits of their endurance. While they are out there, something terrible happens.

According to IMDb, “After the unknown infection attacked the world, the survivors lived on to continue the war. Humankind is facing the likelihood of its own extinction. 'The Last one' follows an unlikely champion of Earth's survival: Alex, a ruthless survivor, who is forced to face his own demons and protect the planet's last remaining hope.”

According to GoodReads.com,“The Last One is a novel that forces us to confront the role that media plays in our perception of what is real: how readily we cast our judgments, how easily we are manipulated.”
