Alabama vs Texas A&M game recap
Last Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies took on Nick Saban and his undefeated army (Alabama). The game was a close one until Alabama’s depth chart proved to be superior to Texas A&M’s. I don’t think there’s any doubt in anyone's mind why Alabama is ranked number 1 in the country.
The first quarter was an important one, as both the Aggies and the Tide put points on the board. According to ESPN, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa scored a touchdown on his first pass to Devonta Smith. Alabama scored twice in the first quarter; the other one was a rushing touchdown by Tagovailoa. The Aggies scored once on an 8 play 4:55 second drive ending with a pass from quarterback Kellen Mond to wide receiver Jace Sternberger.
The second quarter is where Alabama really started to pull away. The Tide’s defense kept Texas A&M out of the end zone, holding them to only three points. Alabama managed to score twice, one on a 6 play, 75 yards, 2:00 drive, ending with a pass from Tua Tagovailoa to wide receiver Hale Hentges. The other was a 6 play, 75 yards, 2:15 drive ending with a pass from Tua Tagovailoa to Hentges.
The third quarter was no different for Alabama. They once again kept the Aggies out the end zone and held them to only a field goal. Running back Josh Jacobs scored a touchdown on a 7 play, 80 yards, 1:29 drive. Tagovailoa threw for another touchdown to wide receiver Henry Ruggs III on a 2 play, 92 yards, 0:29 drive.
In the fourth quarter, Texas A&M's defense buckled down and kept Tagovailoa and his high-powered offense out of the end zone. The Aggies also managed to get in the end zone on an 11 play, 88 yards, 5:26 drive. The final score was 45-23.
