Apple's IOS 12 update released
On Sept. 17, 2018, IOS 12 for iPhones came out with a bunch of new capabilities. Some the updates include Memoji, set screen times, and faster performance, but there are plenty more, according to PC Mag.
Memoji is an update for the iPhone X’s Animoji. You now can create an animoji that looks like you or anything you want. If you prefer not to create one looking like yourself, Apple has also released some new animojis, including a ghost, koala, tiger, and a T-rex.
For the parents who do not want their kids spending all their time on their phones, Apple has now added a screen time feature to the phones. The screen time app will show an overview of how much time the child spends on the phone, and the parent will be able to set a time for when the child should sign off.
If the parent does not want the child to get distracted from notifications, the parent can set when a time of when the notifications will show up. The parent can even limit times to certain apps like Snapchat or even block their child from certain content. Any device signed on to that account will receive the same rules, meaning that you cannot switch devices to get more screen time because the rules are synced across all devices.
Apple has advanced their Siri search assistant by giving it shortcut commands. You can create a command to tell Siri what to do rather than telling her what to do. So, if you say “Heading home,” that could be a shortcut for Siri to map out on Maps the way to go home.
"Users can customize Shortcuts by creating a simple voice command to kick off the task or download the new Shortcuts app to create a series of actions from different apps that can be carried out with a simple tap or customized voice command," Apple says.
Apple has released augmented reality support for Messages, Safari, Mail, Files, and News. You can go into any of these apps and write text and do many other things.
In photos, there are more sharing suggestions, and you are able to look up certain photos by events, people, places, groups, categories, and recent searches. You can also include multiple terms in the search.
According to Apple, the speed for the phone from the update has increased. It opens up apps two times faster than before. The camera will load up 70 percent faster, and the keyboard will display up to 50 percent faster.
Without a doubt, the best part of the update is that now you can share your location with 911. As soon as a person calls, the caller's location is shared. It uses GPS and WiFi points to locate the caller. Apple will be teaming up with RapidSOS to share the person's location with 911 centers.
The feature that will be releasing in the Fall will be the group facetiming. During the facetime, each person has his or her own box. Whoever is talking will have a bubble that will pop up. A person can type on the box of a certain person to just see them. If a group of people have a group chat, they can turn that chat into a facetime at any point. On the iPhone X, anyone can turn himself or herself into a Memoji.
Another cool feature that was added was a measuring tool. You can measure anything with your camera or see if anything is balanced with the measuring tool app. This app comes with the update and automatically downloads.
