Man fined for kicking seagull who ate his cheeseburger

A New Hampshire man accused of kicking a seagull that tried to eat his cheeseburger has been fined $124.

A police report, taken from the bystander who witnessed and reported the incident, stated that the man, Nate Rancloes, had just returned from purchasing a cheeseburger and fries from a vendor on Hampton Beach and sat on the sand.

Later on, a seagull approached Rancloes and began pecking at the burger. The man spun around with his leg to shoo it away but kicked the bird.

According to CBS46, Rancloes said it was a "simple mistake."

The witness said the bird's leg appeared to be injured and that it struggled to fly away.

New Hampshire Fish and Game Lt., Adam Cheeney, says that seagulls are protected by federal law, and that is why Rancloes was fined.
