JJ Wilcox honors mother at Boys and Girls Club Memorial 5x
James Edward "JJ" Wilcox, Jr is a Cairo High graduate (class of 2009) and American football safety who is currently a free agent. He recently participated in the fifth annual Marshell Wilcox 5k Run and Walk, which began and ended at the Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club in Cairo.
Bryce Bass was the overall winner of the race with a time of 18:55. Zika Magloire was the overall female winner, finishing in 21:34. On the day before the race, Friday, May 11, 2018, Wilcox was at the Boys and Girls Club signing autographs for kids; he also spoke to them about the importance of education. According to the Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Wilcox told the group, "I'm the first one in my family to graduate from college and it was a pride and joy to walk across that stage."
After Wilcox attended Cairo High and Georgia Southern University, he went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys in 2013. Wilcox played four seasons for the Dallas Cowboys, and out of the four seasons, he played 58 games. In 2017, Wilcox played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He appeared in 12 games and recorded nine tackles and one interception.
According to ESPN, Wilcox is a free agent "not subject to waivers and can be signed immediately."
