Chris Hemsworth will wave the green flag at Indianapolis 500
On Sunday, May 27, 2018, at the 102nd annual Indianapolis 500, Chris Hemsworth will wave the green flag: a flag that in most cases indicates the start of a race.
Hemsworth stated, “I am very excited for the Indy 500 this year. As a TAG Heuer ambassador and motorsport fan, it’s an incredible honor to wave the green flag. It is going to be an exciting moment, and I am happy to be here with TAG Heuer,” WTHR reported.
TAG Heuer is a brand that sells watches, and the company is “the Official Timekeeper of the Verizon IndyCar Series and the Indianapolis 500 race for the next three years, according to Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s website.
“The Indianapolis 500 is the greatest race in the world and the largest single-day sporting event on the planet, so it’s fitting we will have a globally recognized and applauded figure in the flag stand. Chris is a true sporting fan who is going to embrace the IMS experience and enjoy seeing 33 cars race down the front stretch at our iconic facility,” J. Douglas Boles, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway president stated.
According to Indy Star, Hemsworth waving the flag means this will be the fourth consecutive year that an actor will wave the flag. Actors Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Pine, and Patrick Dempsey have all waved the flag at the event, USA Today reports.
Hemsworth’s appearance at the event will happen 55 years after a Marvel Comics issue, “Tales of Suspense NO. 45,” showed Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, driving the “Stark Special” in the same race, according to Indy Star.
