Seahawks release quarterback after assault allegation
The Seattle Seahawks have released quarterback Trevone Boykin after his girlfriend charged him with physical assault allegations on March 27, 2018.
Boykin’s girlfriend accused him of physical assault on March 20, 2018. She said he broke her jaw and he tried to strangle her, according to USA Today.
The 24-year-old denied all allegations against him. He said the allegations were not true, and he wasn’t involved in a physical fight with his girlfriend.
“This woman has lied about me and it has cost me my job. I understand the Seahawks decision to release me. The story that was reported casts a bad light on the organization and on me," Boykin told USA Today.
Mansfield Police are investigating the alleged assault. Sgt. Michael Midkiff said, “no charges had been filed and the investigation was still in an early stage.”
Boykin has been arrested twice before this incident. In 2015, he was arrested for public intoxication and physical assault on a police officer. In 2017, the vehicle he was a passenger in hit several people, and he fled the scene and later on he was arrested on misdemeanor charges of public intoxication and possession of marijuana.
