Suspects in the murder of four-year-old Michigan girl captured in South Georgia

On Jan. 9, 2018, in Lowndes County, Ga., a Michigan couple was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals for the murder and torture of a four-year-old girl that was found with “severe burns” on New Year’s Day.

The mother of the little girl, 24-year-old Candice Diaz, and her 28-year-old boyfriend, Brad Fields, were driving in South Georgia when they were arrested by U.S. Marshal agents from Macon, Ga., and officers of the Sheriff’s Department in Lowndes County.

According to WCTV, “The case began when officers in Michigan responded around 10:45 a.m. Jan. 1 to a report of an unresponsive four-year-old-girl at a residence in a Sumpter Township mobile home community.”

The little girl was transported from there to an Ann Arbor hospital, where she was then pronounced dead. Two days later, a Washtenaw County Medical Examiner ruled the little girl’s death a homicide from evidence of traumatic injuries that indicated child abuse.

The capture of these two ended the nationwide manhunt that was launched after four-year-old Gabby Barrett’s death was ruled a homicide.
