Tallahassee officer fires shot at fleeing suspect near Cascades Park
On Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, a Leon County deputy fired a single shot at a man driving a vehicle near Cascades Park in downtown Tallahassee, Fla.
The suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Calvin Abdul, was first found by officers sitting in his car in the middle of Cascades Park. "Leon County Sheriff’s deputies say they had been looking for Abdul after they received a call he was involved in a domestic dispute Sunday morning. Abdul was also wanted on a separate felony charge," according to the Tallahassee Democrat.
Once he realized he was spotted, he tried fleeing. The officers tried to pin him, but Abdul managed to escape. He hit a squad car and almost hit a deputy on foot, according to Lt. Grady Jordan with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. The officer fired at the vehicle as it "accelerated toward a couple of the deputies," according to Lt. Jordan.
Abdul later lead deputies on a car chase; he finally crashed his car between Mills and Kissimmee. No one was injured in the chase or incident. He was later arrested and booked in the Leon County jail.
Abdul has been charged with the following: aggravated fleeing and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
