Film Preview: 'Pacific Rim: Uprising'

"Pacific Rim: Uprising" is an upcoming film being released on March 23, 2018. It is a sequel to the 2013 film "Pacific Rim," in which humanity must come together to fight off giant sea monsters by creating enormous robots called "mechas," which are controlled by two or more "pilots."

The new film is based on a rebellious brother and “estranged” sister. Together they gather recruits to fight off the monsters who want to destroy humanity. The rebellious brother is played by John Boyega, who is known for playing Finn in the new Star Wars films, including "The Force Awakens" and the newly released "The Last Jedi."

His sister is played by Jing Tian, who has appeared in action films, such as “Kong: Skull Island,” which was released earlier this year, and 2016’s “The Great Wall.” Another well-known actor who will be appearing in the film is Charlie Day, who's known for the popular TV show "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia." He also appeared in a recent film, "Fist Fight".

The director of this film is Steven DeKnight, who is mainly known for directing and producing TV shows like "Spartacus" and "Taboo."

The film is rated PG-13 due to the language and violence in the film. It will be available in 3D and its original format. The closest 3D theater to watch the film is Thomasville’s GTC Gateway Cinemas.
