Tallahassee man faces multiple charges after fleeing from police
On Dec. 12, 2017, Stanley Bass, 50, was arrested for fleeing from the police and crashing into a patrol car. “The Tallahassee Police initialed a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driving erratically on Lake Bradford Road near Pepper Drive,” according to WCTV.
Bass was asked by police to stop his vehicle, but he refused to do so. “The car had a blown out front tire and was continuing to drive with sparks coming from the tire's rim,” according to Tallahassee police. A passenger later jumped out of the vehicle when Bass pulled into a parking lot. After the passenger jumped out, Bass sped off and hit the back of a patrol car. He then backed up and sped off again.
According to WTXL, the passenger who jumped who jumped out said "she begged Bass to let her leave the car, but he held her arm and would not let go, causing her to fear for her life." According to the woman, Bass was using drugs while driving, which caused him to drive erratically.
The police later caught up with Bass and performed a PIT maneuver, causing him to lose control of his vehicle. The car struck a tree after crashing through a fence near the Glen Hallow apartments on Lake Avenue. According to police, Bass then jumped out the car and ran towards the officers, who tased Bass and then gained control of him. He was then taken to the Hospital and was arrested after being medically cleared.
Bass is being charged with the following: aggravated battery on an officer, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving with property damage, resisting an officer, false imprisonment, and simple assault on an officer.
Bass is being held in the Leon County Detention Facility on $31,000 bond.
