‘One Million Moms’ speak out against Disney Channel’s show ‘Andi Mack’

One Million Moms is a conservative group that has found fault with Disney Channel’s show “Andi Mack” because the show has introduced a gay character, Cyrus Goodman, into the plot. The group claims Disney is “choosing to abandon family-friendly entertainment” with the character’s plot line, according to the Huffington Post.

The group created a petition, and they looked to their supporters to sign the petition calling for a boycott of Disney if the show was not cancelled immediately. By Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, the petition had received over 9,400 signatures, according to the group’s website. Huffington Post reported, “it’s doubtful that Disney will take the threat of a One Million Moms boycott too seriously.”

The group has also spoken out against the Disney Junior show “Doc McStuffins” because one episode featured a family that had two moms. Similar to the situation with the show “Andi Mack,” the group encourages people to contact Disney if they agree that two moms are wrong for a kids’ show.

Disney Channel is now airing season two of the show; the series premiered on April 7, 2017, making it one of Disney Channel’s newer shows. “Andi Mack” is currently one of the network’s most popular show, according to the Huffington Post. On social media, teenagers have expressed interest in the show because of Goodman’s story line.
