Falcons extend losing streak to three games against Patriots
On Oct. 22, 2017, the Atlanta Falcons lost the New England Patriots 23-7. With the loss to the Patriots, the Falcons now have a three-game losing streak to the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins, and the New England Patriots.
During the game, the Falcons offense went scoreless for more than 90 minutes, according to USA Today.
The Falcons, including their star wide receiver and running back, Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman, needed to win to get retribution for losing Super Bowl LI on Feb. 5, 2017, against the Patriots.
Reporters asked Jones if the last years loss of the Super Bowl meant anything this year, and Jones replied with, "No. No. Not at all. We're not thinking about last year. I'm getting questions about last year because it keeps getting brought up because of the Super Bowl, or 'Y'all were scoring this and that.' But that's a whole different team. That was 2016, this is 2017," Jones told USA Today.
Freeman added on to Jones' comment, saying, "we just have to keeping working. We'll get there. Every year is a new year. NFL, you're either getting better, or you're not . You'll never be okay all year long. You'll get better or worse. A lot of teams in the NFL are getting better. So are we. We just need to figure out how to close. But those are small things we can fix."
According to USA Today, in two of their three losses of the current streak, the Falcons have succeeded on 38 percent of third downs. In their last two losses, the Falcons have lost the time of possession battle.
The Falcons will next play the New York Jets on Oct. 29, 2017, at 1 p.m. Will the Falcons make it a four-game losing streak, or will they beat the streak?
