Elon Musk could rebuild Puerto Rico with solar power
Elon Musk, CEO and Owner of Tesla Cars, says he can rebuild Puerto Rico’s destroyed electric system with solar power.
The islands’ governor, Garcia Padilla, made it clear via Twitter that he wanted to talk to Musk, saying, “Let’s talk. Do you want to show the world the power and scalability of your Tesla Technologies? Puerto Rico could be that flagship project,” according to the BBC.
After the devastating effects of hurricane Irma and Maria, the power in Puerto Rico has been down and has rarely come back into working order. Musk is proposing putting solar power-harnessing power banks around the island and neighboring islands. These grids can power the area for up to three days without any extra charge from sunshine.
This would not be Musk’s first energy project. He has worked with Ta’u in American Samoa. The solar fields there power almost 100 percent of the island, according to the BBC. With this foreign help, the island could regain full power within the year.
