Movie Review: 'Flatliners'

“Flatliners,” a drama and science fiction film, was released on Sept. 29, 2017. The film is a remake of the 1990 version of “Flatliners” that received a 49 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and on average was rated 5.2 stars. As of Oct. 5, 2017, the film has been out for seven days, and it has an average rating of 3.6 on Rotten Tomatoes.

One of the main characters decides to stop her heart for one minute to see brain activity after death. The whole film is based on that one point, and it also advances from that point in the plot. After the person “flat lines” for a short amount of time and is brought back, life is turned upside down; the characters who decide to flat line and then come back experience their past wrongdoings to come haunt them.

You could watch the film and only take it as the film, or you could take it as a lesson in life. I watched the film and got an idea of a lesson you could take from it: do not let your past mistakes control your life. In the film, the characters’ pasts play important roles in the ending.

The film is not advertised as a horror film, but some scenes in the film are scary, in my opinion. If you are a person who enjoys being frightened, the scary elements will be a good add on.

Overall, I liked the film, but it did not go in the direction I thought it would go based on the previews. The film includes many twists and turns that can put you on the edge of your seat. I recommend the film if the previews look interesting to you.
