Artist Review: Alex Aiono
Alex Aiono, an R&B and pop artist, has recently been gaining a lot of attention thanks to his covers and mash-ups. This 21-year-old artist, whose full name is Martin Alexander Aiono, was born in Phoenix, Arizona on Feb. 16, 1996.
Aiono released his first cover on YouTube around five years ago; the cover was a performance of onerepublic's "Secrets," which now has received an estimated 101,000 views on the site.
On Nov. 20, 2015, Aiono released the album "Alexmas"; since then, he has released new songs, covers, and mash-ups but no full albums.
Aiono currently has over 5.2 million subscribers on YouTube and over 30 songs, mash-ups, and covers. Aiono performed the song "Man In The Mirror'"in "The Batman Lego Movie," which came out Feb.10, 2017. The song was originally performed on Michael Jackson's 1987 album "Bad."
In my opinion, some of his best works are his mash-ups. The mash-up of "One Dance" by Drake and "Hasta el Amanecer" by Nicky Jam was the first video I saw and the one that really got me interested in him as an artist. It was also the first song that really made him famous, as well as the first he sang in Spanish. It has many reactions on YouTube. Check out the video here:
Another one of my favorites is the mash-up of "I Spy," "T Shirt," "Isn't She Lovely," and "Swang"; on the track, AR'MON AND TREY harmonize with Aiono and bring it all together. Check out the YouTube video here:
Finally, another one of my favorite Aiono performances is the cover of "Redbone" by Childish Gambino that Aiono performs alongside William Singe. Check out the YouTube video here:
