Three-year-old girl dies due to fatal shooting in home

On the evening of Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at around 8:00 p.m., a three-year-old girl was killed after being shot in the neck. The incident took place on Danny Road in Lalor Park, in the western region of Sydney, Australia.

Police and investigators are still trying to decide if the shooting was accidently done by the toddler or was intentionally done by someone else.

The child’s father is, however, going to be facing a court date within the next month with charges of “not keeping firearms safe, possession of an unauthorized, prohibited and unregistered firearm, and breaching an AVO (Apprehended Violence Order),” according to ABC News.

BBC reported, “A distressed woman, reported to be the girl’s mother, was taken to an ambulance not long after the incident. She was heard saying: ‘Not my baby girl, not my baby girl.’” This woman was identified to be the mother of the toddler and was also heard screaming at a man, “I hate you, I hate you.”

Neighbors informed reporters of ABC News at the crime scene that they ran out of their homes when they heard the sound of a gun being shot. They also witnessed the father getting out of his car, crying, and not being able to breathe properly, while yelling at the top of his lungs for someone to call for help. Mark Tupua, a neighbor, first informed his sister, who then alerted police of the situation.

According to ABC News, “The girl’s three older brothers, all aged under eight, were also in the house but police would not comment on whether any of them witnessed the shooting.” The fact that the children were the only ones in the house at the time of the shooting may suggest that the child accidentally shot herself or was accidentally shot by one of her siblings.
