SEC Season Preview: Georgia Bulldogs

Last year, the Georgia Bulldogs finished with an 8-5 overall record and finished ranked outside the top 25, according to ESPN. However, due to a very strong 2016 recruiting class and higher expectations for quarterback Jacob Eason and other players, the Georgia Bulldogs will enter the season ranked 16 overall, according to Sports Illustrated. Most sources believe the Bulldogs will win the Southeastern Conference’s Eastern division this season.

The Bulldogs’ first game this season will be against the smaller school, Appalachian State on Sept. 2, 2017, but their first big game that fans are looking forward to will be against Notre Dame on September 9. Athlon Sports Magazine predicts that the Bulldogs will finish with a 9-4 record and play Alabama in the Conference championship game.

The key returning players for the Georgia Bulldogs are quarterback Jacob Eason, who is a sophomore; junior wide receiver, Terry Godwin; and senior safety, Dominick Sanders. Senior running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel are also back for their senior seasons and “could boast the best running back duo in college football” according to Saturday Down South.

The 2017 signing class for the Georgia Bulldogs was among the top three in the country. Richard LeCounte III, who plays safety, will be a major breakout candidate for the Bulldogs this season. According to Dawg Nation, he is currently getting first team reps.

The head coach for the Georgia Bulldogs is Kirby Smart, a former player and defensive coordinator at the University of Alabama. This will be his second season as head coach.
