College Football Preview 2017: Florida Gators


The Florida Gators, who finished 9-4 last year, will have their first game on Sept. 2, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. against the Michigan Wolverines.

The Gators rank number 17 overall going into the season, according NCAA preseason rankings, and are projected to finish with eight wins and four losses this year, according to Athlon Sports. They are projected to finish with six wins and two losses in the Southeastern Conference's Eastern division. Georgia is predicted to be ranked number one in the Eastern division.

The Florida Gators have two big games to play in the upcoming season. The first will be against the Georgia Bulldogs on Oct. 28, 2017, at 3:30 p.m.. The next big game will be on Nov. 25, 2017, against Florida State; the time has not yet been decided.

Florida had a big loss last year when Tennessee came from behind and won 38 to 28. The Gators also had a big win against North Texas 32 to 0 last year.

According to Sports Illustrated, Malik Zarie, who is currently competing for the Gators quarterback position, is a potential breakout player this season. The senior recently transferred from Notre Dame. Zarie told SEC Country, “This is everything to me ... this is everything I have to prove, everything I have to lose and that’s how I take each and every day.”

The Gators head coach is Jim McElwain; he has been head coach since 2015.

Florida’s stadium, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, in Gainesville, Fla., isn’t only where the Gators play their home games; it's home of their mascots Albert and Alberta Gator.
