Claw-some new cafe opens in Tallahassee

Cat and coffee lovers rejoice! There is a new cat café in downtown Tallahassee called “Fat Cat Café Tallahassee.” It opens on Aug. 26, 2017, and its daily hours will be from 11 am to 7 pm. It is located on the east side of town near Capital Circle SE at 2901 East Park Avenue, Suite 2600.

Michelle Hartsfield is the owner of the establishment but is also a teacher and cat rescuer. This coffee house also doubles as a cat adoption center. While you are drinking your coffee or eating a snack, you can cuddle cats.

The first room in the café is the dining area and ordering station; the café offers pastries, coffee, and sodas. The other room is the cat play area where you can snuggle and play with cats for $7. So in other words, if you're not there with your cat or are allergic to cats, you can just dine or hang out in the main dining room area.

Hartsfield works with local adoption agencies to get cats in her café, and she can get eight to 12 cats at a time. “I envisioned incorporating my love for cats and for rescuing them,” Hartsfield told the Tallahassee Democrat.

“I wanted to work with local rescues to open up for more opportunities to adopt cats through the café.”
