Teen beats Ellen DeGeneres's retweet record
Carter Wilkerson, a teen from Reno, Nevada, just dethroned Ellen DeGeneres’ famous Oscars selfie for the most retweeted tweet.
It all started when Wilkerson tweeted Wendy’s and said “Yo @Wendy’s how many retweets for a year of free chicken nuggets?” Wendy’s then replied and challenged the teen to get 18 million retweets.
According to CNN.com, his plea for retweets was shared nearly three million times, receiving attention from tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. United even offered to fly him to any Wendy’s in the world if he reached 18 million retweets.
He had only acquired 3,432,218 retweets compared to 3,430,242 retweets of DeGeneres' selfie at the 2014 Academy Awards. Despite Wilkerson not getting 18 million retweets, Wendy’s said it would give him the free chicken nuggets. The company said it would also donate $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a Wendy’s affiliated nonprofit charity created by the company’s founder, which finds permanent homes for children in foster care.
