“Seussical" the musical, which first premiered on Broadway in 2000, is loosely based on Dr. Seuss’s children’s story “Horton Hears a Who” but mixes in characters and ideas from some of his other works. Some of these other stories include, “The Cat in the Hat,” “The Grinch,” and “The Lorax.”
The Drama program chose to perform this musical for several reasons: many of the performers have always been fans of Dr. Seuss – especially of the character the Cat in the Hat – and the seniors “wanted to go out with a bang.” This musical is also special the director, Ms. Adkins: “It was the very last show my dad ever got to see me in.”
What can you expect if you come out? The cast members said that the musical will entertain children and families with its bright colors, songs and the upbeat, cheery mood of the play. It has a happy ending, but it also teaches an important lesson that “A person is a person no matter how small,” or in other words, everyone is important in his or her own way.
Some of the main characters are Cat in the Hat, which is played by Brendan Forrest, Horton, who is played by Juan Munoz, Gertrude McFuzz, played by Lauryn Ransom, and JoJo, played by Jake Cassels.
