Figure Skater Profile: Karen Chen
Karen Chen is an American figure skater. She was born on August 16, 1999, in Fremont, California. She has a younger brother named Jeffrey, who is also a figure skater. Chen is studying at home through Connections Academy, and she began learning to skate in 2005.
Chen has won a lot of skating awards after 2011. She also is currently 17 years old and a two-time bronze medalist at the ISU challenger series events, as well as a 2017 U.S. national champion.
Chen performed at the Four Continents tournament, which was held on February 16-19, 2017, at the 2018 Winter Games ice rink in Gangneung, South Korea.
In my opinion, she was amazing, but the judges thought otherwise. They say she continued to struggle with her jumps that Saturday, and they docked four of the teenager's seven jumps. She ended up finishing in 12th place in a free skate, one month after winning her first U.S. title.
After the competition, she said, " I do feel that I made a lot of mistakes and those are things that i can go home and work on," She continued, " I am happy that I really attacked this program despite all its flaws. I tried to sell it as best as I can."
At the age of 17, Karen has a lot of work to go over with her coach and hopefully make a comeback and get past these struggles.
