UGA Loses Matchup, Top Player Against Kentucky

The Georgia Bulldogs (15-12) and the Kentucky Wildcats (22-5) basketball teams played this past Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 6:00 pm. The Bulldogs lost the game in the last minute. The overall score was 82-77.

Georgia’s top scorer, Yante Maten, was injured early in the game. According to dawgnation.com, “Maten was diagnosed with a knee sprain” and will probably miss the rest of the regular season. The injury happened only 95 seconds into the game. Yante Maten had averaged approximately 19 points and 7 rebounds per game this season.

After Maten’s injury, their next best player, JJ Frazier stepped up and played an amazing game, scoring 36 points, according to macon.com.

In the end, the Dawgs lost again, and some fans are calling for UGA's head coach, Mark Fox, to be fired. After the game, however, Kentucky's head coach, John Calipari, defended Coach Fox, according to espn.com: "He keeps his team together...That's coaching. Not when things are going good. It's when things go south and you lose a bunch in a row, how do you get them and go."

Kentucky went on to defeat Missouri in their next game against Missouri, on February 21, 2017. The score was 72-66. Georgia’s next game will be against Alabama, who have a 16-10 record, on February 23, 2017. The game will start at 7:00pm and will be played in Tuscaloosa; it will be on ESPN2.
