Patriots Win Superbowl LI
On February, 5, 2017, the New England Patriots became the Super Bowl champions for the fifth time. For the first time, a Super Bowl needed overtime. It took the biggest come back in Super Bowl history to do it. The game took place at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons by a score of 34-28.
At first the Falcons had a 28-3 lead midway through the first quarter. When Atlanta’s quarterback Matt Ryan took at fumble midway through the fourth quarter, it helped the Patriots come all the way back to tie it at 28.
According to CNN.com, this was the Falcons second appearance at the Super Bowl and the ninth appearance for the Patriots. This is an NFL record with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady leading seven of those appearances.
Tom Brady was named Super Bowl MVP for the fourth time. He also became the first quarterback to win five Super Bowl titles.
It was a big loss for the Falcons according to Matt Ryan. "There's nothing you can really say," Ryan said. "That's a tough loss. Obviously very disappointed, very close to getting done what we wanted to get done, but it's hard to find words tonight."
